The history of American wine began when French Protestants explored North America and found native grape vines. However, these Protestants would later discover that the wine made from the various native grapes, had flavors which were unfamiliar and which they did not like. This led to repeated attempts to grow more familiar varieties.

So, when you buy a great bottle of wine from the U.S. - toast (throwback) to those who made it possible.
