Still family owned, this vineyard's history dates back to the late 1800's when Antonio Caruso bought the land to grow grapes for the nearby Marsala factories. Located on Sicily's western-most coast Nino Caruso decided to started producing and bottling his own wine in the mid 1900's. Stefano Caruso joined forces with Mario Minini of Lombardy in 2004 and launched the present-day winery. Today Stefano's daughter Giovanna works closely with her father to head up this historic winery producing wines from indigenous Sicilian varietals such as Catarratto, Nero d'Avola, Frappato, Inzolia, and Nerello Mascalese. Having grown today to just under 297 acres Giovanna is working on a 12.50 acres bio project herself. Millions of years ago this region was under water and now the soil is rich in organic substances and minerals. Aromas of zesty lemon, gooseberry, ripe nectarine, and herbaceous sage lead into similar flavors with nuances of balanced salinity, tart pink grapefruit, and fresh white spring flowers. Similar to a Pinot Grigio but with more body and an earthy funk. Enjoy on its own or pair with all types of seafood, veggies, vegan dishes, and pasta.
