Limavady is an independent whiskey initiative realized in partnership with WhistlePig whiskey. Whiskey Master Darryl McNally can trace his family's history with whiskey at Limavady Distillery which opened in 1750 and was shuttered in 1915 before Prohibition. His goal here with this whiskey is to reclaim the Limavady name with a new legacy for Irish whiskey.
This whiskey is made from 100% Irish barley and is small batch, triple distilled in a copper pot still. The single malt whiskey is aged in ex-bourbon barrels and finished in PX sherry cask before bottling each cask individually, at 92 proof.
An enticing nose of lemon, peach, marzipan, caramel, orange peel and dried fruit lead to a palate of ripe banana, ginger, allspice, honeyed malt, almond, subtle cinnamon and mint. A short to medium-length finish is consistent with the mouth.
