The bold black 'XR' is a tribute to the long line of winemakers that presided over the cellars of the Marques de Riscal who, in Bordelaise tradition, would mark special barrels with 'XR' for "Extra Reserva". The first vintage of this bottling was released in 2015. A blend of Tempranillo and Graciano shows bay leaf, tobacco spice, lush black and blue fruit and a notably forward oak presence. In fact, the wine spends at least 25 months in American oak and is targeted at an American market.
