Franzese Wine was founded by Michael Franzese and Samvel Hakobyan. The back story reads like the tale of a pheonix risen. Michael was listed in a 1986 Fortune magazine article as #18 on its list of the "50 most wealthy and powerful Mafia bosses." Over time he found God, left the mob life and became a successful entrepreneur and motivational speaker. His partnership with Samvel, whose family had a history of winemaking was the genesis of the wine company.
Areni is an indigenous Armenian varietal grown throughout Armenia. The vines for this wine are grown in the Vayots Dzor region at a high altitude. Franzese's wine is 100% Areni. Violets, wild berries, cherries, strawberries, spices and sweet vanilla share space with a silky roundness and refreshing acidity. The wine is fruit-forward, but beautifully balanced with supple tannins.
