What the islanders of Italy's Sardinia call Cannonau is the same grape known to the French as Grenache and to the Spaniards as Garnacha. Sardegna's Cannonau provides generous berry fruit - think ripe raspberry, spiced blueberry and succulent blackberry - wedded to ground white pepper, carob. licorice and sublte floral notes. Full-bodied on the powerful palate with slightly chewy tannins. Always among friends with medium-ripened cheeses, cured meats, meat pies and lamb skewers.
BTW, Sileno was the name of the Satyr of Bacchus...
