Hallmarks of a good Gigondas are fresh acidity, notable garrigue (wild herbs like lavender, thyme, sage, etc.) and bright juicy red, black and blue fruit. That said, this Domaine de Terme Gigondas checks all these boxes and more. Violets and garrigue abound in the nose complemented by more of the same on the palate along with blueberry compote, red plum, black cherry, black raspberry liqueur, boysenberry, and anise, green peppercorn, baking spices and worn leather. This blend of 45-year old 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah shows brambly Gigondas wines deserve more fans.
