Banshee was originally founded by three friends from the Midwest and East Coast who shared a passion for wine and a lifelong dream of owning their own winery which was a fascination for each one having started early in their lives. Post-college each pursued a career in the wine industry ranging from importing, production, and distribution/sales. Ultimately they ended up in San Francisco's Dog Patch district together putting their business plan into action in 2009 with money borrowed from their friends and family. Having moved to Healdsburg a few years ago Baron Ziegler (an original founding member and current head of Banshee) created a deal with Bill Foley and his signature group in March of 2018 to keep his label consistent yet secure. Sourced from 18 different vineyards included in the Single Vineyard program, the final blend consists of 10 different Pinot Noir clones. Fermented in small, stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures the juice is then aged for 16 months in 35% new French oak barrels. Deep and rich aromas of macerated wild berries and earthy herbal notes lead into a palate of sweet yet tart red and blue fruits reminiscent of Santa Rosa plums and wild blackberries that commonly grow in the Sonoma Wine Country. The silky mouthfeel is elegant and soft throughout finishing bright with slightly herbal notes, smoke, and savory mushrooms enjoy on its own or pair with any dishes as this is VERY food friendly!!
