TERLATO EPISODE 2007, Napa

90pts from Wine Enthusiast and 89pts from Wine Spectator. Anthony J. Terlato (currently the chairman for Terlato Wine Group) wanted to craft a wine that would represent and stand alongside the finest wines he has tasted over his 50 year career in fine wines. One of his favorite luxuries in life (as he states) is planning and then executing a fine meal for his friends. He enjoys having everyone together cooking, laughing, and talking. Anthony feels that the wine should be showcased and paired with these meals. So he crafted Episode which has been hailed as the pinnacle wine for Terlato Vineyards. Only crafted in limited quantities, 2007's vintage has been called the best of the decade with only 17 barrels produced. Hand selected from only 1 ½ acres out of their over 600 acres in Napa, the blend consists of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, and 4% Cabernet Franc. Deep ruby hues lead into aromas of ripe blackberry and warm vanilla. The palate is rich and deep with black fruits, mocha, and toasty wood. Intense and rich it finishes long with the palate carrying through and being rounded out with earthy minerality like graphite. Crafted in a Bordeaux style you can cellar this for a bit but it is advised to drink before 2026. If you choose to enjoy this now pair with big meals such as pasta, steaks, and bold, hearty fare.
