92pts from Wine Enthusiast. Domaine Roy & fils was founded when friends Marc-André Roy and Jared Etzel decided to go property shopping on a rainy day with their fathers (industry veterans). They had a site in mind that they were in route to when their real estate agent called to tell them about an old 21 acre filbert farm on Worden Hill Road in Dundee. The site neighbored some of the iconic vineyards in Bergström, Cameron, and Maresh. After walking through the orchard and seeing how sturdy the trees were, they realized this was the ideal site for growing their vines. They had put an offer in on the property by the end of the day and officially found their vineyard site on that day November 18th, 2012. The vineyard was planted in April of 2013 with 10 clones of Pinot Noir and 2 clones of Chardonnay. They chose to name the site the Iron Filbert Vineyard paying homage to the old filbert orchard that once stood and the iron rich soils that run through the land. Shortly after finding this site they added another site the Quartz Acorn Vineyard located in Yamhill-Carlton. 2017 was their first vintage from this site. Made with organic grapes sourced from both sites, this is the most aromatically floral of all their wines in the 2017 vintage. Aromas of lavender and violets, rose, and savory rosemary lead into a deep palate of spiced cranberry and ripe plum. Silky and rich the finish is long with jammy purple fruits, warm spice, and nuances of toasty oak. The vineyard sates that you can cellar this for 6-8 years or longer. Enjoy it on its own or pair with roasted veggies, Charcuterie with creamy cheeses, and spicy fare.
