GLENMORANGIE QUINTA RUBAN 14 YEAR OLD SINGLE MALT SCOTCH, Scotland

William Matheson founded the Glenmorangie in 1843 on the banks of the Dornoch Firth in the Scottish Highlands. William used the distillery's peaceful surroundings as an inspiration to pioneer single malts into exceptionally smooth but wonderfully complex whiskies. Even today the distillery still honors his craft by continually producing their whiskies in the same way using Scotland's tallest stills for distilling and the finest casks and perfected by The Men of Tain for maturing to create a smoothness and depth. The Quinta Ruban easily falls into the "extra-matured" range of Glenmorangie's whiskies. This is their darkest and most intense, having been aged for 10 years first in American white oak casks then transferred into specially selected ruby port pipes from the Portuguese wine estates known as "Quintas". The pipes develop a rich, depth of flavor that is complex from nose to mouth. Aromas of minty dark chocolate, candied citrus, sandalwood, toasty nuts, and baked spices lead into a palate consisting of the same flavors but with back notes of velvety candied roses, candied nuts, and candied citrus. The silky mouthfeel carries throughout finishing long with dark chocolate mint giving off pops of a cooling crispness and then candied oranges warming you back up.
