93pts from Wine Enthusiast and 90pts from Wine Spectator. Chateau Peyrabon sits in the Haut-Medoc region of Bordeaux specifically falling into the Pauillac-appellation which is the leader on the Left Bank in the number of first growth classified producers within its boundaries. They have more than any of the other appellations at three of the five total producers and are classified as a cru bourgeois which means that it is one of the original vineyards included in the 1855 Classification of Crus Classés (aka Classed Growths). Patrick Bernard, its current owner, fell in love with the charming estates gravel terroir in 1998. At just around 124 acres, the wines produced here have a strong personality showcasing the fresh and fruity character typical of an excellent Cabernet Sauvignon. Bernard and Xavier Michelet (his team leader) are passionately dedicated to creating elegant and silky wines that are authentic of their region. Purple hues edged in garnet leads into a nose of bruised black and blue fruits and warm woods. The palate is rich and deep with ripe red fruits, jammy black currant, and cassis. Finishing long and juicy with baked dark fruits, warm oak, and refreshing minerality this is ready to drink now or cellar until 2024. Enjoy on its own or pair with steak, hearty pasta in red sauce, and roasted veggies.
