Marc Rafael created this Pinot as a tribute to the love of his life who shares in working the vineyard with him. Named "The Elke Home Ranch", it lies just 20 minutes from the chilly Pacific Ocean allowing a marine air climate with a swing in temperatures regularly. A former cattle ranch that was turned into a vineyard by the previous owner (Mary Elke) who herself is considered a pioneering grape grower in the Anderson Valley and used the land also as an apple orchard. Marc used three of his four clone varietals from the vineyard to create this cuvee. The Pommard, Stang, and Elliot clones were blended for an opaque red hued. On the nose you have crushed rose, dried violet, and vibrant red berries followed by hints of a warm, earthiness. Velvety on the palate it showcases the red berries then gives way to wild mushrooms followed by earthy, baking spices, and finishing with a tinge of baked yeasty, crust lingering. Medium bodied with elegant structure and a mouthfeel that carries throughout you can pair this with literally any food or be happy with it on its own. Drink now or age up to 15 years.
