91pts from Wine Enthusiast. As a young winemaker with new ideas, Kurt Angerer chooses to utilize other methods of grape cultivation at his various vineyards. For Kurt this is a no brainer since he comes from a multigenerational family of wine makers. His ancestors have been winemakers in Kamptal since 1848!! His estate in Kamptal is located in the Lengenfeld district and has been a vineyard for 150 years. Kurt has acquired just under 67 acres that he has either inherited, purchased or leased. His intent going forward is to make all of his estates a multigenerational family business just as his ancestors have done for him. All of his vineyards are sustainable and he feels strongly attached to the traditions passed down to him from his ancestors as well as the various terroirs of each site. This is evident in how he chooses the names of each wine based on the soil compositions. Kurt whole heartedly feel that the mineral structure, diverse locations of bed rock soil, far-reaching loose soil, and gravel compositions such as gravel, granite, and loess influence the flavor profile along with what can be gained or lost through the aging process of using oak or stainless steel. All of this has added to his success on multiple facets such as exporting to other continents and selling wine in Europe. The multiple cuvées of Grüner Veltliner showcase his true skillset of how the terroirs drive the flavor profile. Now Kurt can invest more time in high-quality production and to achieve international standards. Grown in the red gravel soils (kies) hues of medium green edged in yellow lead into aromas of golden apples, fresh honey blossoms, and spice. The palate is fruit forward with ripe tropical fruits such as kiwi, pineapple, melons, passion fruit, and pops of salinity. Balanced and well-structured finishing long with baked bread, spice, and crisp minerality this is truly a multifaceted food companion. Lively and refreshing enjoy chilled on its own or paired with spicy dishes, vegan dishes, charcuterie platters, and light poultry dishes.
