95pts from Wine Enthusiast, 94pts from James Suckling, 93pts from Wine Spectator, and 92pts from The Wine Advocate. Chateau Langoa Barton is now on its 8th generation of being family owned and run by the Barton family. Sitting at the southern end of the Saint Julien appellation, the site produces wines high in elegance, great finesse, and subtle flavors known to be the key characteristics of wines from this appellation. Founded in 1821 by Hugh Barton, he utilized the site for its architecture and the beautiful façade. Over 30 years later the site would receive classification as a 3rd growth vineyard. The Barton family currently owns two sites in St. Julien with this one being labeled as the "junior" site. However MANY critics disagree with that statement saying that this estate is "impressive in its own right". Crafted from a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc the wine is super ripe and smooth from nose to mouth. Intense deep purple hues lead into aromas of caramelized red fruits, warm mocha, and smoky cedar. The layered palate is concentrated with baked purple fruits, baked spices, and pops of minerality. Finishing long and bold with juicy dark fruits, toasty oak, and spice with a predominant silky mouthfeel. Cellar until 2025 if you choose otherwise enjoy on its own or with a bold steak, hearty stew, and filling pasta dish.
