BAROSSA VALLEY ESTATE GSM 2018, Barossa

The Barossa Valley is a small, beautiful place tucked away on the southern edge of the great Australian continent. The region has been growing wines for 150 years and no white wines or white producing grapes are in grown in this region. Barossa Valley Estate was created in 1985 with the intent to only make red wines produced from sustainably grown Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, and Mourvèdre. The unique terroir consists of ancient red friable clay soils rich in mineral content which creates moderate fertility contributing to the fruit being much more concentrated. The climate assists growth and flavor due to less humidity and higher sunshine hours creating warmth and dryness which is ideal for grape growing and ripening. 34% Grenache, 33% Shiraz, and 33% Mourvèdre are blended to create aromas of violets and ripe red berries. Vibrant and deep the palate is juicy with jammy red berries, ripe red fruits, and nuances of freshly ground baking spices. The silky mouthfeel is due to being aged for 12 months in French oak with a medium toast. The long velvety finish lingers with soft red fruits and baked spices. Delicate yet deep this is wonderful on its own or pair with BBQ dishes, roasted veggies, and spicey dishes.
