Availability: In stock
88pts from Wine Enthusiast. Named for the abbreviated French word "exemplaire" meaning deserving imitation; commendable, setting an example, and setting a high precedent. Produced by the Gonfrier Family on their estate of just under 1,000 acres located on the Right Bank in the little village of Lestiac-sur-Garonne which falls in the Premières Cotes de Bordeaux appellation just under 10 miles South East of the heart of Bordeaux. Sustainably farmed and 100% estate produced this blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet is both soft and fruity, yet rich and dense. Chalky soils are covered with little white stones on a slope facing the Garonne River utilizing bio diversity from the plants and the wildlife. Fermented in stainless steel tanks then 50% of the wine is barrel aged in new to 3-year-old French and American oak for 8-9 months. Being labeled as a "new style" of Bordeaux, deep blue and red hues lead into aromas of ripe red and black fruits. There are no green notes that are usually found in a traditional, old fashioned Bordeaux instead getting rich, ripe black fruit throughout. Balanced by medium tannins and acidity the palate is driven by rich black currant, jammy black berries, and earthy mushrooms. Finishes medium with spicey oak and iron minerality. Made to be enjoyed young pair with any spicy dishes, mushroom fare, or enjoy on its own.
