Each and every family member (including those that have married into the family) work at the winery in some aspect whether it's marketing, production, or oenology. Over the past 90 plus years the various generations have acquired more parcel sites along with doing technological upgrades to all aspects of the winery. De Bortoli's Old Boys Tawny is crafted to honor the importance of fortified wines in Australia's wine history with Tawny always leading the way. The winery in its own right is historic so in order to craft the best port they tapped into old wine reserves held for blending which makes this your NOT so average 21 year old port!! The result is a complex and intense Tawny that showcases each wines specific trait. Aromas of dried candied fruits such as figs, apricots, and candied nuts waft out of intensely deep chocolate brown hues. The palate is smooth, not cloyingly sweet, and viscous coating your entire mouth with rich mocha, milky coffee, and creamy caramel with fresh green peppercorn. The lingering finish showcases a persistent heat with dried herbs, candied nuts, and toasted woodsy leather. This can be enjoyed now or cellar for a few years. Drink on its own or pair with a rich and creamy Charcuterie board showcasing dried fruit and nuts, blue cheeses, and spicy salamis.
