Hailed as one of Wine Enthusiast's "Best Buy!" wines, Black Cabra has racked up many accolades over the years. Owned by Patricia Ortiz, the Zolo Winery at Fincas Patagonicas chose to name their 100% Cabernet Sauvignon "Black Cabra" after the goats that roam the Argentine Andes where the vineyards and winery are located. Specifically, one of the goats befriended the workers and would visit them daily. The Cabra would hike along the roads with the workers and then sit outside the windows of the production building watching them work!! Due to this goat's loyalty it was a no brainer that they named one of their lines after their guard goat!! Produced by Fabian Valenzuela and Jean-Claude Berrouet(Chateau Petrus)who also makes Tapiz, this is crafted at one of the most technologically advanced, state of the art wine complexes in all of Argentina. They utilize six of their estate vineyards/sites each with a different terroir composition that showcases the various expressions of the fruits and varietal concentrations. Deep garnet hues edged in purple give way to bright aromas of red fruits, black cherry, baked spices, and warm chocolate. The palate starts off ripe and full-bodied with flavors of jammy blackberry, creamy mocha, and toasty oak finishing long and lush with strawberry jam, baked spices, and warm vanilla. This is a steal at under $10 considering it's from the winemaker behind Petrus and Dominus!! Enjoy on its own or with hearty dishes such as steaks, stews, and anything grilled, roasted, or braised.
