MMMM, WINE AND CHEESE
Full disclosure at the outset... a good friend of mine is a wine sales person at this store. I had been once before around the holidays for an Alpana Singh book signing. This time, I visited over Labor Day weekend to prep for a Ravinia outing. I went when my friend was not working to give it an honest try as a "random" customer.
I was blown away, sincerely. The samples, the selection, the service... the fact it is an intimate shopping experience. One vendor was sampling vodka at the entrance. A manager is seated when you walk in and will direct you where u need to go. The wine room is like visiting a wine friend's basement... its a bit dark (as it should be, natural light being poison for wine) but not overwhelming. Wines are stacked by country and then split between reds, whites and in-betweens with helpful staff pick signage and other things to catch your eye.
The day I visited they featured all things Spanish. Ample samplings of Spanish cheeses, Serano ham, chorizo, olive oils and no fewer than a dozen wine samples were consumed with glee by other visitors, a high quality and impromptu light snack. Then there is, my Yelping colleagues, the food: They have a great cheeses and imported smoked meat selection... but the differentiators are their home-made dips, spreads, soups, and other items. I tried a liver mousse that was crazy good, sweet, smooth, sinful... a blue cheese dip was also amazing.
Case discounts on wine are available. I live in Highland Park and we have a Sam's that I am grateful is so close by - and that is great. But I found Schaefer's to be worth a special visit from points south, north, or west.

This is the second warehouse sell I have been able to attend. I would just like to say how much fun I have every time I attend. My brother-in-law and I realy enjoy trying different types of wine.

With some regret, I am writing to ask you to cancel my Tri-Wine membership.
I have been a Tri-Wine member since the mid 90s. If I count correctly, that means I've received over 750 bottles over those years.
It has been a fine experience. You introduced me to wines I'd never have tried, got me hooked on Port, educated me on the wines of the world, etc. I have no regrets. This cancellation comes as a result of increasing difficulties in being present to accept the delivery and a general change in my wine drinking habits.
I thank you all for the great selection of wines over the years and the great service when I needed it.
